The College of Human Sciences Renovation & expansion

GOAL - $30 million

ENVISION THE FUTURE OF HUMAN SCIENCES

The College of Human Sciences enhances people's lives through faculty research and innovation, excellent teaching, and service to professional partners and community leaders. The College has an exciting opportunity to take serving people to a new level with a creative transformation of our iconic facilities. Renovation of the existing building and an expansion to the north will provide students and faculty with revitalized space in which to forge new partnerships with industry and professional partners while pushing the boundaries of social and scientific research and technology transfer.

THE OPPORTUNITY

A four-story, 106,000-square-foot addition north of the existing buildings and renovations to the current structures will create laboratory and teaching space that will enhance our already successful programs and provide new opportunities for students and faculty to advance. The combination of the renovations and new construction will provide for expansion of academic programs and research efforts related to childhood obesity prevention, aging and gerontology, components of family risk and resilience, creation and development of protective clothing for emergency personnel, social and behavioral health, marriage and family relations and nutritional standards. The College will be the destination of choice for students and faculty seeking collaborative, creative scholarship and the chance to pursue solutions to real-world challenges on a local and global scale.

Student Scholarships

GOAL - $5 million

STUDENTS ARE THE FUTURE

The College of Human Sciences is committed to students. The College's highest freshman retention rate at OSU is a testament to this commitment. Whether through the Knaub Student Center, rigorous academic preparation, experiential learning or study abroad opportunities, Human Sciences' students are prepared for success from the moment they enroll. This enables Human Sciences graduates to impact the lives of others. We are extremely proud of the way our College and alumni succeed in solving human problems and enhancing human lives.

Scholarships and Fellowships
Eighty percent of OSU students rely on some type of financial aid to fund their education. The College of Human Sciences wants to assist accomplished and motivated students to realize their goals of becoming college graduates, but we need your assistance.

Endowed Scholarships and Fellowships
By establishing endowed undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships for students, you are making an ongoing and important investment in the future. Follow our students after graduation and you will find them in positions of leadership in nutrition, design, retailing, the hospitality industry, and not-for-profit settings. Ask our alumni who have received scholarships and they will tell you how extremely grateful they were for support that enabled them to complete their education.

Annual Scholarships and Fellowships
Annual gifts supporting unrestricted scholarships are also especially valuable because they enable the College of Human Sciences the flexibility to recruit and retain outstanding students. The College has committed to raise $250,000 in annual gifts through 2014 for the CHES Endowed Scholarship Fund for Excellence to take advantage of the Pickens Legacy Scholarship Match, created by the generosity of T. Boone Pickens. This commitment will be matched 1.5:1, growing the total endowment by $625,000 and, ultimately, providing an additional $31,250 in scholarships annually. Every gift makes a difference, toward our goal and your support will ensure our success.

Endowed Professorships and Chairs

GOAL - $2.5 million

WORLD CLASS FACULTY

Faculty are the heart of the College. Endowed faculty positions attract outstanding faculty with national and international recognition for quality teaching and research. In addition, the added expertise of these reputable educators provides the leadership to benefit and serve other faculty, students and the region. Faculty members who hold prestigious chairs and professorships are considered experts in their fields and are highly regarded in the academic world.

Not only do endowed positions increase a faculty member's stature in their profession, but these roles establish educational strength and prestige for academic departments and disciplines in the College of Human Sciences. They greatly enhance the College's ability to recruit and retain world class educators in all academic fields.
