Welcome to Oklahoma State University College of Human Sciences' Distance Learning Site For On-line Master's Programs Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (Great Plains IDEA)

The College of Human Sciences at Oklahoma State University is a member of the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (Great Plains IDEA). Great Plains IDEA is a consortium of universities that can help you reach your goals through on-line education. Working together, the Great Plains IDEA developed an Internet-based curriculum that allows you to do course work at your convenience. The courses in each program are semester based and asynchronous, meaning you will not have to be on your computer at a specific time or day during the week. Instructors will set specific due dates for assignments; however, your work may be submitted anytime during the week up to the deadline.

OSU currently offers three master's degrees and three graduate certificates through Great Plains IDEA. The degrees are: M.S in Nutritional Sciences with concentration in Dietetics;  a M.S. in Human Sciences with an option in Family Financial Planning; and/or a graduate certificate in Family Financial Planning and a M.S. in Human Development and Family Science with an option in Gerontology and/or a graduate certificate in Gerontology.

Students select OSU as their home institution where they will enroll in all courses through the program coordinator, although some courses may be taught at a participating university. At the end of each semester, grades are reported on the student's transcript at OSU. A student does not have to request transcripts from the teaching institution.

Admission to the program is made in coordination with Oklahoma State Graduate College and the College of Human Sciences. There are no deadlines for applications to a Great Plains program at Oklahoma State University; however, it is advisable to send your application materials three months prior to the start of a semester.

By agreement, the cost of the program is a common fixed tuition for all students at all institutions participating in Great Plains IDEA. For the academic year 2013-2014, the tuition is $500 per credit hour or $1500 per course. No other fees are assessed; however, books and material are not included in the tuition price.
