About the Conference

The population growth of elders in Oklahoma is out-pacing the number of health care professionals trained in geriatrics. To support current and upcoming professionals, Oklahoma State University and the Oklahoma Geriatric Education Center are working together through a consortium partnership to enhance the professional practices of health care professionals, aging-care providers, community members, and social service providers. To do this, the institutions are delivering evidence-based education specific to gerontology and geriatrics.

Building on the 2011 Linking Gerontology and Geriatrics Annual Conference, this year’s event has three primary tracks: Bioethics and Ethics, Disaster Prevention and Health and Well-being. Each track will include presentations from some of the leading professionals in the gerontology field. Each track will focus on providing information that will help participants gain a greater depth of knowledge and understanding in geriatrics and gerontology.

Continuing education units will be provided for MSW, LPC, and LMFT.

Objectives

  • Identify links between Gerontology and Geriatrics
  • Apply evidence-based information to enhance the best practices or meet practice gaps in working with older adults
