News In Brief

Karen Fraser has joined our staff as the coordinator of Wine Forum. Karen brings a wealth of experience to the Wine Forum as the former fundraising events manager for the Philbrook Museum of Art. Karen has worked and volunteered for many Tulsa area non-profits in event planning, fundraising, corporate and donor relationship building and customer service. She’s an OSU graduate and proudly wears the orange! We’re so glad she’s joined the Wine Forum team.

West Side Café has had a new grill and fryers installed this summer. New artwork will be hung prior to the beginning of the semester too!

Heidi Hoart reports that both the Info Tech and Cost Control classes will have new software next semester.

Dr. Ryan and Dr. Yang are working with the Cushing Chamber of Commerce on a feasibility study for a proposed Cushing Oil Interpretive Center. The purpose of the study is to determine the market interest and financial impact of such a center. The project started early this year and is expected to be completed this summer.

Chef Paul Brennen has been traveling across Oklahoma working on a state level research project this summer, School Nutrition Culinary Training. He is also involved locally with Stillwater Public Schools Free Breakfast and Lunch program.

 
Hotel and Restaurant Administration Alumna Wins Sweet Award
Cassidy Boyer, HRAD ’05, and general manager of Stillwater’s Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory received the President’s Award at the national convention held recently in Portland, Ore. The President’s Award is the highest honor awarded every two years to the store that overwhelmingly represents the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory (RMCF) brand and company mission; a store whose operations are well controlled and consistent with regards to store cleanliness, merchandising, product preparation and customer service. Nine RMCF’s were nominated for this prestigious award.

Dar Yasseri Named Executive in Residence for the School of Hotel and Restaurant Administration
Dar Yasseri has been named Executive in Residence at the School of Hotel and Restaurant Administration at Oklahoma State University.

Yasseri has served the hospitality industry for more than 25 years. He began his hospitality career as a manager in training with Hilton Hotels Corporation while still in high school. He went on to study at Oklahoma State University where he earned his bachelors in Hotel and Restaurant Administration.
