Human Nutrition/Premedical Sciences
GETTING EXPERIENCE AND THE JOB
Nutrition plays an essential role in human health. The Human Nutrition/Pre-Med option is a science-oriented program that prepares students to enter professional programs in the medical field or to research emerging nutrition questions while pursuing advanced degrees. The curriculum also provides opportunities to develop the critical thinking skills and people skills needed to be successful in challenging fields. Laboratory courses provide hands-on opportunities to apply classroom theory and develop analytical skills. Students take prerequisite courses needed for specific professional school admission.
Many Human Nutrition/Pre-Medical Sciences graduates continue their education in medical, dental or graduate school. Students are encouraged to work or volunteer in related areas while attending college. Some undergraduate majors work with researchers in the nutritional sciences department, assisting with ongoing research projects. The nationally and internationally-recognized faculty members conduct research on a wide variety of topics in the community research, clinical research, and laboratory research. OSU Pre-health clubs complement classroom experience.
WHY HUMAN SCIENCES?
If you are planning to apply for medical or dental school after you receive your bachelor’s degree, you may be looking for a program that will not only prepare you for those schools, but will also set you apart from other applicants. The Nutritional Sciences-Human Nutrition/Pre-Med (HNPS) option at Oklahoma State University does just that. You will take all the prerequisites to apply for the professional school of your choice, but you will also take courses in nutrition which will add a valuable dimension to your preparation for a career in medicine.
