Design, Housing and Merchandising student Audrey Bilyeu was selected to receive a $5,000 scholarship from the National Fashion Scholarship Fund and recognized along with instructor Diane Limbaugh at the awards gala in New York City this week. Students from more than 65 schools participated in this highly competitive project.
A senior studying apparel design and production, Bilyeu is from Stillwater. She submitted a detailed case study in which she did a comparison of two Japanese companies who use online markets for used kimono sales. Bilyeu designed a line of children’s clothes made from re-purposed kimonos and presented her line with a mood board and fashion sketches of the garments. As a winner, she will intern with a company and participate in meetings with major apparel firm executives.
