2015 faculty and staff awards
The College of Human Sciences recognized the 2015 Faculty and Staff Award recipients during the annual Holiday Celebration in Taylor’s Dining Room.
Dr. Daniel Lin, associate professor in the department of nutritional sciences, received the Marguerite Scruggs Meritorious Early Career Research Award. Lin focuses his research on understanding how dietary changes can impact and alter basic chronic disease processes. Lin examines the molecular mechanisms through which bioactive food compounds regulate cellular functions in health and disease in chronic inflammation, obesity, and Type 2 diabetes. His research includes wolfberries, eggs, Chan berries, and spinach. Lin has 24 refereed journal publications, three externally-funded grants, and multiple presentations at national and international scientific meetings.
Dr. Barbara Brown, food specialist and associate professor in nutritional sciences, was awarded the
Outstanding Community Engagement Award. Brown’s examples of community engagement are significant at the
local and national level. Her primary
focus has been to encourage Oklahomans to increase daily consumption of fruits and vegetables. She has accomplished this by appearing in 526 “Cooking with Barb Brown” segments on the Oklahoma Gardening television program and YouTube videos produced by OSU. These popular shows highlight food preparation. Her engagement agenda as a cooperative extension state specialist improves methods of home food preservation, food safety, improvement of food quality, and limiting loss of food
